Just the mention of the word "cowboy" evokes the romantic image of a man sitting atop his faithful horse, western hat secured on a head filled with all the plight and intrigue of the times. This man has leathered skin and knowing eyes, and as he rides tirelessly into a sunset, his horse kicks up puffs of dirt amidst the glorious cactus plants that thrive in the west.
Like apple pie and campfires, cowboys are a rich and defining piece of our history. Cowboy outfits for baby, perhaps, reflect our desire to bring the magic of the cowboy to all of our young buckaroos. We swaddle our infants in cowboy buntings, baby bibs and wrangler pajamas. We bathe them with cowboy imaged bath mitts, as little sponge-like cowboys float by in the tub.
Cowboy outfits for babies are popular and come in a variety of patterns, fabrics, and styles. From layette items to full clad cowboy apparel, there are choices to fit the needs of all our little wranglers. Cowboy outfits can stand on their own as fashionable and charming clothing choices, or they can be purchased as Halloween costumes. In order to fully understand the range of cowboy toting choices, it is necessary to realize the basic makeup of a traditional cowboy outfit.
Following is a list of basic cowboy apparel:
Boots: Traditional cowboy boots have functional heels, but boots for babies are softer, flatter, and safer (and available in booties for our tiny cowboys).
Hat: With wide brim for sun protection, no cowboy outfit is complete without one.
Vest: another classic in the cowboy persona, and often available in baby sizes in faux-leather, leather, or the ever-popular cotton.
Chaps: leather or hairy leg coverings that protect our cowboys from inclement weather and brush. Derived from the Spanish word, chapaderos, chaps are actually pronounced "shaps".
Chinks: short chaps that extend just below the knee. They are usually seen with fringes.
Pants: We see both jeans and cotton pants sold for our littlest cowpokes. Pants sometimes have leather or faux leather fringing down the sides.
Clothing stores sporting cowboy outfits for babies sometimes carry a variety of pattern swatches to individualize a basic outfit. You may find a multitude of tiny cowboys riding their horses with lassos in hand, or perhaps you prefer a black and white cow-motif. Some of the materials are much softer than others, and it's always important to remember the baby?s comfort when purchasing these adorable outfits.
Babies clad in traditional cowboy outfits are irresistible! They may not yet be versed in the Code of the West, or even have a clue about the dinero spent on their ensemble. They will, however, notice the many smiles that fly their way as they reflect the rough and tough images of the rodeo, the west, and the ways of the cowboy.
