Fluttering Butterfly Baby Shower Design Ideas

A butterfly-themed baby shower is a delightful way to celebrate the new life soon to emerge, not to mention a perfect theme for a spring or summer baby shower. When making butterfly baby shower invitations, a good place to start is the color scheme. Examples of symbolic color usage include:
  • To represent spring or summer colors, use cardstock in sunshine yellow or a meadow green.
  • For a boy baby, provide a sky blue background on which your butterflies take flight.
  • For a girl baby, incorporate pink butterflies or use pink paper.
Crafting or designing butterfly invitations hold many imaginative possibilities. Whether you enjoy crafting, designing invitations on your computer or a combination of both, here are a few ideas that may spark your own imagination.
  • Consider if the shower features a certain type of butterfly, or an array of butterflies. Find or draw images to match.
  • Using a template, trace and cut out a picture of a butterfly from cardstock. Glue the butterfly to the inside fold of the card. When the recipient opens it, the butterfly opens its wings. Have a picture of a cocoon on a twig on the front of the card with a verse that refers to the new baby coming out of the cocoon.
  • Create a whimsical picture of a butterfly with a cute face, using clipart, a template or stamps.
  • Combining clipart pictures, create a scene with a newborn babe, smiling and reaching out to butterflies overhead or being tickled by a butterfly.
  • Create a spring scene featuring babies crawling and playing in a meadow with butterflies. A butterfly could land on one baby's hand or nose.
  • Using a template cut each of your cards into the shape of a butterfly and then decorate.

Whimsical, cute or elegant, you can find soft embellishments that seem to be a natural for a butterfly theme. Examples include:
  • Organza ribbon
  • Translucent vellum overlay, attached with a ribbon for a soft and elegant feel.
  • Natural floral or embossed papers.
For a card verse that will be used to invite the guests, consider poems and books for young children about butterflies. Details about the who, what, when, and where of the shower should follow.
