When making your own baby shower invitations, your first step is to do all brainstorming regarding the shower theme, colors, appropriate imagery, and complete wording. Get a blank piece of paper and let your imagination run wild! Spend a little time browsing through stationery stores to look at commercially made invitations and cards. Sketch some basic ideas for the theme, and write out all of the text you'd like to include. Go all out and make a prototype! This can be done on any kind of paper, and is best created with a pencil. Once you feel confident about these elements, the "how to" of producing the invitations will naturally fall into place.
NOTE: Before you get too far in the design process, decide whether you want colored or white paper. Traditionally, primary colors or gentle pastels are featured in baby shower invitations. You can get these colors by printing on white paper, or by choosing colored paper from the beginning. Fancy or textured colored papers many not work well in home printers, nor will heavy white bond paper. However, printer capabilities are improving all the time to keep pace with the do-it-yourself crowd. Check your printer manual or plan some time for a few test prints to be safe.
Once you have your design in place, it's time to get to work. Pick the invitation approach that's right for you:
