Ideas for Creating Your Own Birth Announcements

Nothing in the world compares to welcoming a new baby into your life. This new little bundle will steal your heart and make you wonder how you ever lived before you became parents. Obviously, you want to share the wonderful news of baby's birth with friends and family so they too can marvel at your precious baby. While you want to announce your baby's birth, you also want to be a little more creative than handing out cigars. What you need is a unique birth announcement idea!

Most birth announcements contain the same general information: the baby's name, date of birth, length, weight, and parents' names. However, even this information is not set in stone. Parents can include any number of other things, including names of siblings, poems, scripture verses, or famous quotes or sayings. Sometimes, the announcements don't even come from the parents but instead are sent out by happy grandparents. Basically, the birth announcements can take on any number of looks.

So, where do you begin? The first thing to remember when making your birth announcements is to try to reflect your family's personality. If you want to make your announcement memorable, you should try to make it personal. What does your family enjoy doing? Do you have any special hobbies or favorite pastimes that can be incorporated? For example, a family who enjoys gardening may choose to create a garden scene with a picture of her newborn curled up in the center of one of the flowers. The family who spends time traveling may want to make up a mini passport featuring the new baby's statistics and picture.

Parents can choose to create their announcements by hand, on a computer, or by professional printing. Regardless of what means you choose to make these special cards, you can still include themes that will make the announcement uniquely yours. For example, if religion is a big part of your family life, you can include scripture verses on your announcements, or you can even create an announcement that can later be used as a bookmark to mark those special passages. Do you love poetry or have a favorite poem? Perhaps you can include a line or two, or even the entire passage.

A beautiful picture of your newborn baby is the perfect touch to creating a unique birth announcement. A black and white close-up of the sweet little face or even a shot of the tiny little fingers or toes can be stunning. Some parents may also choose to include a hand or footprint of the little one. Simple card stock with the baby's pertinent information printed between two footprints is a timeless look that will remind you years from now just how tiny your child once was.

Craft stores often have many supplies for creating birth announcements. You can purchase tiny cloth diapers, bottles, pacifiers, bibs, rattles, and more that can be glued onto cards to make an inviting birth announcement. For a unique mailing idea, print or write the necessary information on a thin piece of paper, then roll the paper up and place it inside a small plastic bottle along with confetti and tiny plastic rattles and bottles. The bottle can be placed in an envelope and mailed.

And what if you just love chocolate? You can actually have your baby's statistics printed onto a candy wrapper that surrounds a delicious chocolate bar. This is definitely a memorable and delicious way to announce your baby's birth!

By incorporating personal touches to your birth announcement, you can guarantee that it will be a keepsake that will be cherished for years to come. That special card can be slipped into a baby's book or scrapbook to look back on and remember those first few weeks of your baby's life.
