The first thing to do is to decide on an overall look for your announcements. You may want to include a special verse or passage of scripture. Of course, you can add a photograph of your precious baby, or you may want to include pictures of such things as a cross, angels, a dove, or a baby in a basket. You can also search the internet for Christian clipart.
Where can you find inspiration for your Christian birth announcements?
- Look in your Bible to find verses that speak to you during this special time.
- You may wish to speak with your pastor, minister, or other church members who can help guide you toward passages or stories in the Bible that you can use.
- Friends and family may also have ideas on making your announcement reflect both your family's personality and your deep faith in God.
On the other hand, you may find that creating the cards by hand is a challenging but enjoyable activity you would love to tackle. By making the cards yourself, you can be sure they will be personal and meaningful. You can purchase everything you will need at craft stores. And what will you need?
Well, paper or blank cards, of course. You can choose soft pastels, bold primaries, snowy white, or anything in between. You may also need scissors, glue, vellum paper, a hole punch, tiny bows or ribbon, or other "baby" embellishments.
Once you have assembled your supplies, the fun really begins. One example of a gender neutral, classic card involves colored card stock, colored vellum paper (this should be the same color as the cardstock or a similar color), a picture of a cross, and ribbon. To assemble the announcement complete the following steps:
- First, cut the card stock into 4x6 rectangles and the vellum paper into 3x5 rectangles.
- Next, decide on the wording. Most announcements contain the same general information, such as the baby's name, date of birth, weight, length, and the names of the parents.
- This pertinent information about the baby should be neatly written or printed centered on the card stock, starting about one-third of the way from the top of the card.
- Next, write the words "Our New Blessing from God" across the top of the card.
- Under these words, either free-hand a picture of a cross in black, or carefully cut one out of black paper and use glue to secure it to the card. You may be able to purchase small cross templates or stickers from a crafts store or Christian bookstore.
- Lay a sheet of the vellum paper over the card stock.
- Using a hole punch, make a hole in the center of the card at the very top, making sure to also punch through the vellum paper.
- Secure the vellum paper to the card stock by putting the ribbon through the holes in both the top vellum paper and the card stock underneath and tying a bow.
Creating a Christian birth announcement allows you to praise God as you welcome your new baby into the world. Those nearest and dearest to you can share in giving thanks for your wonderful blessing.
