Birth Announcements for a Joyous Season

When you think of Christmas, you think of family, presents, and celebration. Indeed, it is a wondrous time. So what could be more exciting than celebrating your baby's arrival at Christmas? Just this -- announcing his or her birth in a special, memorable way.

A Christmas birth announcement should be as festive as possible. Keep in mind that during the season you'll be giving and receiving many cards, so you'll want your precious message to really stand out from the pack.

Birth announcement cards are available in a wide range of Christmas themes. For example, there are classic designs with Santa and his reindeer, snowy outdoor landscapes, and cozy fireside scenes complete with a Christmas tree. All of these have space for a cheery introduction and the baby's statistics, and many have a spot for a photo of your newborn. These cards are available at stationery stores or online. Bonus: some places will offer two-tone printing in red and green for free!

But here's the best part about sending a Christmas birth announcement through the mail: you can add a personalized holiday message and save the extra mailing this year! Like magic, you've created more time to spend with you baby.

Looking for an announcement that has more bite? Make labels with your newborn's name and birth details, then tie them around candy canes. These can be hand-delivered to friends and family. If you have older children, they can share them with friends and classmates. Bring some along on the next hospital visit. The doctors and nurses will appreciate such a clever keepsake.

If candy canes don't seem substantial enough, you can order custom-made cakes, cookies or chocolate candies with your baby's photo and birth facts. With a house full of holiday guests, you can never have too many treats around. This is the perfect solution for feeding visitors, and it doubles as an amusing birth announcement!

But perhaps the best idea is something with staying power, something you can pack away with the Christmas decorations and appreciate year after year, such as a personalized ornament. There are loads of ways you can create this using colored paper, ribbon, glitter, and gold and silver marking pens. But you can't go wrong with an ornament made from a photograph of your newborn. Just make Xerox or printer copies of a photograph, cut it out in any shape, and paste it onto heavy paper. On the back, write the baby's birth information (to save time, you can use your computer to print out your baby's stats). Punch a hole in the top, and string with a ribbon that can be hung on a tree branch. For variety, do a similar design but use a print of your baby's hand or foot.

Making ornaments for friends and relatives is a great way to pass out a Christmas birth announcement. It's the perfect opportunity to share what is certainly the best Christmas gift of all.
