Twins Birth Announcement

Finding the Perfect Design for Double the Joy

So, you're going to have twins! This is a double blessing with two little babies to love and shower with attention. Such exciting news deserves to be shared with all of your closest friends and family. Instead of sending out two separate birth announcements, which would be double the work, consider creating a twin-themed birth announcement.

A twins birth announcement is unique in that you need to include information on two babies on one card. While the general information remains the same as with other birth announcements, including the babies' names, date of birth, weight and length at birth, and the names of the parents, the wording of your notices may change. One challenge is fitting all of the pertinent data on one announcement.

First, decide if you would like to make your announcements by hand, with your computer, or by professional printer. Making the announcements by hand allows you to let your creative juices flow and guarantees a unique announcement. However, it also requires a time commitment. As the new parents of twins, you most likely do not have much spare time! Step-by-step instructions to create a cute and relatively easy twins birth announcement by hand follow below.

Next, decide on a theme. Are your twins the same gender? If so, you might want to read Baby Girl Birth Announcements or Baby Boy Birth Announcements. If you have been blessed with both a boy and a girl, you will probably want to stick to more gender-neutral cards. You can include photos of your babies, hand prints or footprints, "baby" decorations such as rattles, rubber ducks, bottles, or bibs, special verses or sayings, or you can cut the announcement into a specific shape.

If you are having difficulty choosing a theme, look no further than your own family. Try to reflect your personality or the personality of your new babies. Perhaps you could incorporate something from the babies' nursery. Look in your favorite nursery rhyme books. Ask friends and family for ideas. If you have older children, they might be excited to help create unique announcements. You can also search the Internet for ideas. Many sites include twins birth announcement ideas and clipart that is appropriate for a twins card.

To make a memorable but fairly simple twins birth announcement, assemble the following supplies that can be purchased at crafts stores: white or other pale-colored card stock, pens, tiny bows, and ink pads. You can use black ink, but it is also fun to use more "traditional" baby colors. Use pink or lavender for girls, and blue or green for boys. To make the cards, follow these steps:
  • Centered across the top of the card stock, write the words "Doubly Blessed."
  • Directly underneath, include the following phrase, "(Parent's names) would like to introduce their twins born on (date of birth)..."
  • Then, place one of the baby's left foot onto an ink pad (you may need help with this step) and then press the footprint down on the left side of the card, leaving about a half inch between the print and the edge of the card. Press the other baby's right foot onto an ink pad and place this footprint onto the right side of the card, again leaving half an inch between the print and the card's outside edge.
  • Next to the left footprint, you will write the first baby's information.
  • First, write the baby's name, underneath the name should be the baby's weight at birth and then underneath this should be the length at birth.
  • Next to the right footprint, write this same information in the same order for the second baby.
  • Attach one of the tiny colored bows to the very top of the card with glue.
  • At the bottom of the card, you can include a phrase such as, "Our hearts are filled with joy," or, "We can't wait for you to meet our beautiful babies."
The perfect little footprints on these announcements will bring a smile to the faces of all who receive them. The tiny feet and toes of newborns are hard to resist! And, years from now when you look at your twins birth announcement, you will not believe how small your precious babies once were.
