Decorating the House for a Beautiful Baby Shower

pink house
It's time to decorate the inside of the house for your upcoming baby shower! There are lots of possibilities for ways to make the space festive and cheerful in celebration of the coming bundle of joy. Decoration ideas for inside the party area include:
  • Quilts
  • Chair Covers
  • Candle Holders
  • Balloons, Streamers, Confetti
  • Stuffed Animals
  • Homemade Mobiles with Baby Items What about wall hangings? Not everyone can sew, but for those of you who do or know someone who does not mind a relatively easy sewing project, a handmade quilt would be a wonderful project that could also be used as a wall hanging for the shower. By using iron-ons or fabric markers as the basis for the quilt panels, you will be making a keepsake decorator item that can be embellished by the shower guests through use of ribbons, fabric pens,1 and paints. To make the guest of honor's chair a special one, consider purchasing a canvas slipcover to decorate. Using clipart based iron-on transfers, beads, ribbon, and other fun craft embellishments, decorate your slipcover. Like the quilt, you can have everyone at the shower grab a fabric market and write their own dedication to the new baby or mother-to-be. The wonderful woman who sits in it is sure to feel special! For soft lighting with a unique flair, take clear or lightly-colored votive candleholders, approximately 3" tall, and encircle it in specialty vellum paper. The translucent quality of the vellum will soften the candlelight and provide a lovely background for any clipart, paint, or colored pencil drawing you may choose to use on the paper. Be sure that you do not put the paper on any portion of the holder that will be exposed to the candle's flame, and use non-flammable adhesives when constructing this project. Animals are almost certain to be a big part of the baby's life, so the stuffed versions fit right in at a baby shower. To enhance the decorative appeal, pick animals that create a theme, like sea creatures, baby farm animals, zoo animals, or jungle animals. Call the other guests and see what they can loan. Or, if the stuffed animals are to be sent home with the mother-to-be, consider taking up a collection to help pay for a full ensemble. Remember, be sure to buy "baby safe" critters, in pink and blue or yellow, with only the softest coats. What could be a better way to get everyone in the spirit than to replace the typical party streamers hanging from the ceiling with homemade baby mobiles? Simply get some string and balsa wood or other craft-suitable support. You could use string and coat hangers! Then tie on a colorful assortment of baby items, including pacifiers, rattles, pins, bottles, and diapers. If you don't want to do all of the work yourself, turn the mobile making into a craft event for all of the shower attendees. Of course, the mobiles make perfect gifts for the woman of honor!
