Baby Shower Twins Theme
Double the Fun With a Twin-Themed Shower
The expectant mother and her husband are doubly blessed. To celebrate their good fortune, you are throwing a party. If you are seeking an original baby shower decoration idea for twins, you have come to the right place!
When you think of twins, you think "the same". Actually, identical twins will grow up together and look alike, but may never behave the same at all. If the twins are fraternal, there's a high chance they will be nothing alike. For a fun twins shower theme, think of a pair of dice. Dice are identical, yet unpredictable.
With dice as your inspiration, and black and white as your color palette, your decorating options are many. If your shower guests are gamblers at heart, make the party a casino theme and use clipart images of black and white cards or dice, in conjunction with witty WordArt on banners to hang around the party room.
Examples include:
A Pair to Draw To
Doubles
A Roll of the Dice
Twice As Lucky
As Luck Would Have It
Black and white balloons and clear, small Christmas lights can be used liberally to add a festive feel, and if you know your mother-to-be would like it, why not set up a few casino games where your guests can play for prizes as they make their own roll of the dice.
For your cake table, consider using a black tablecloth, curly white ribbon, votive holders with black candles, and iridescent confetti strewn around the table. This would all compliment the centerpiece of your table: a cake, made to look like two large dice.
To make a 'dice' cake, you will need:
Six 8" square cake pans.
Three boxes of white cake mix and the ingredients needed to make the mix.
Four to six cans of ready-made white frosting.
Food coloring.
Combine the cake ingredients and bake according to the instructions on the box. One box of cake mix will produce two 8" square cakes. Let the cakes cool in their pans, and, once they have cooled, tap gently on the bottoms of the pans to remove them. Individually wrap the cakes in plastic wrap and freeze them for 1 to 12 hours.
When you are ready to construct your cakes, take them out of the freezer and unwrap them. Place two cakes on the plate or board which you will be using for your presentation on the cake table. Remember that each square cake represents the bottom of one of the dice, so place them next to each other in a way that will appear as though you have just rolled them onto the table.
Consider that you will be frosting the two cakes as they sit side by side. Allow enough room between the two to make that job an easy one. An alternative to doing it this way is to frost each cube separately and then move them closer together, but when moving them you risk smudged frosting, and smudged frosting can be tough to fix.
Using your first 8" square as a base, add a layer of frosting on top, and then stack a second 8" cake on top of it. Do this a second time, so that you have a three-layer, 8" square cake. Repeat the process to construct your second cube.
Once you have the two dice cakes layered, you are ready to frost them. Brush off any crumbs that might get into your frosting and slowly go around the sides, then around the top of each cake with your white frosting. When each cake is frosted, mix a small amount of white frosting with blue, red, orange, and yellow food coloring. Play with it a bit until you produce a black color for the spots on the dice. After looking at some real dice, map out what spots go where and consider using a round template for uniformity. A light trace around the template will guide you in your last stages of construction.
When planning decorations for a baby shower for twins you have many options. Anything that comes in pairs can inspire wonderfully creative shower decorations for a twins baby shower. By thinking about the personality of the guest of honor, and considering her favorite things, the odds are in your favor for producing a terrific party.
