Donald, Daffy, and Daisy all agree - a baby shower is the place to be! If you want to throw a party with a duck theme, fun decorations are the way to make your guests all feel like lucky ducks!
When decorating the outside entrance for a duck-themed baby shower, subtle yet well-placed decorations will lead your guests to the party. By drawing or downloading clipart duck footprints and then printing, laminating, and placing them on your sidewalk up to your front door, you are creating a fun pathway to the party.
For those of you with more outlandish style, grab your duck decoys and meet on the lawn! Use a flock of hunting decoys to entice your shower guests. Place the decoys along the pathway to the front door of the house, or place them around the lawn. However, be aware that this decoration might entice some real ducks to the party!
Surrounding the front door, place a string of yellow rubber ducky Christmas lights. These lights are sold in novelty stores and online, and fit the theme perfectly! Each strand of lights costs approximately $10 and can be used as an Easter decoration as well.
The same decorations you have used outside can be brought inside. A few duck decoys on tables, strands of ducky lights around a mantle or gift table, and duck footprints leading all the way through the front door and down a hallway or into the party room will add continuity to your decorating style. Outdoor pond foliage such as large reeds can be strategically placed around the room coming out of ceramic pots or large baskets.
For the gift table, purchase a white paper tablecloth or use butcher paper to cover it. Then, using duck lights, make a lighted border around the table. Find some duck images, e.g. downloadable clipart images, and print and glue them onto the tablecloth in a random pattern. Provide your guests with colorful, acid-free pens and ask that they sign in and leave a special message for the mother-to-be.
If you want to get creative with your cake, give your party guests a dessert that looks like a pond and place small rubber ducks upon it. Bake several 8" round cakes and cut them into freeform shapes, which you will then frost with a deep blue colored frosting. Place a few small, yellow rubber ducks; found at many bath stores and craft shops, on the pond cake. Add small plants around the edge of the cake or place the cake on a bed of artificial grass to add to the design. Add candy made to look like rocks around the edges of the pond cake to complete the presentation of your special treat.
Be sure to have fun and use all of your resources when planning your party. Consider the suggestions here, talk with your friends, take a walk, and look around your local park. You may find a unique inspiration that helps you come up with your own original duck baby shower decoration.
