Most strained baby food looks like something only a baby could love! Some of the fruits and veggies are even the same color and consistency, and if you remove the labels and it's hard to tell them apart. If you're in charge of the games for an upcoming baby shower, this can be the basis for some fun by introducing your guests to one of the Baby Food Shower Games.
There are two variations to the baby food game.
For the first, buy 10 to 12 jars of stage 1 or 2 baby food. These are well-strained, and it's hard to tell the different varieties apart. Get a good selection of vegetables, fruits, meat, and even mixed foods for added fun. Try to choose some that are the same color, like peas and green beans, pears and applesauce, or squash and carrots.
Take the labels off each jar, then write a number on the bottom of the jar or the lid and the corresponding number on the label you removed. Put the labels aside for later, so you'll know which jar was which.
Print up a list for each guest of about 15 different baby foods. Pass the unlabeled jars around the room, and have your guests try and identify them by sight alone - no tasting or smelling the food inside. Ask your guests to write down the number of their guess next to the name of the baby food on the sheet.
The one who gets the most correct wins.
For this version, you can fasten the labels back onto the jars and, since they are unopened, the mom-to-be can take them home as a gift from the hostess.
The second way to play is to purchase the same dozen or so jars of baby food. Number each label on the jars and then cover them or wrap in tin foil.
Give each guest a paper plate, a plastic spoon, a piece of paper, and pencil or pen. Have them put small numbered circles on the plate. Pass each jar around the room and have your guests put a dab of the different kinds of baby food on their numbered circles in order as they come around.
Once everyone has a sample, ask them to take a taste of the baby food, guess what it is, and write down their answer. Remove the cover over the labels and see who had the most correct guesses.
For this version, you'll especially want to keep your camera handy to catch the expressions as your guests try the more unappetizing kinds of baby food!
If the baby food is tasted by guests, then of course mom doesn't get to keep it. However, what you can do is buy two of each kind and keep one unopened as a gift from the hostess and a souvenir of a fun shower game.
The baby food game is one of the more traditional games played at a baby shower. Whichever version you pick, your guests are sure to love it.
