Game Theme for Baby Showers
Baby Showers are Better with a Gaming Theme
If you're planning a baby shower, it's always a good idea to start with a theme to focus your efforts. Once you've decided on your theme, whether it's "Name the Baby" or nursery rhymes, it will help you choose everything from invitations, to what kind of cake and food you'll serve, to the games you'll play. There are dozens of baby games out there, but the best game theme for your baby shower is easy to pick once you know your basic party theme.
Games at a baby shower serve lots of purposes. First, they're a great ice breaker. Many times when you gather up all the friends, co-workers and relatives of the mother-to-be, there are many in the group who don't know each other. Every hostess has nightmares of giving a party where all the guests sit silently and nobody enjoys themselves. Games will get your guests talking and laughing together and soon they'll all be behaving like old friends.
Games also focus attention on the coming baby and the mother. Lastly, games are lots of fun, and who doesn't love to win a prize, no matter what the prize?
Here are some great ideas for baby shower games:
The Diaper Game
Diapers are a natural for a baby shower. Think about invitations made of fancy paper folded into diapers, a cake made to look like a diaper and, of course, diaper-related games. Some of these might include:
The Candy Bar Game.
Diaper the Baby, which is played in couples and is great for a co-ed party.
Diaper the Balloon, played with a cloth diaper and a safety pin.
What's in the Diaper?
This game might help facilitate a great, practical gift idea for the mother-to-be who already has children and might have lots of typical baby items already. Have each guest bring a bag of diapers as a gift. Tell everyone to choose different sizes. This could save mom lots of money over the first year since she'd probably never have to buy any diapers.
Nursery Rhyme Game
Some of baby's first books and songs will be about nursery rhymes, so why not the baby's shower too? Little Miss Muffet and Jack Horner make cute decorations, too. Some nursery rhyme games might include:
Name the Nursery Rhyme.
Unscramble the Nursery Rhyme name.
Ducks In a Tub.
Name the Baby Game
The parents haven't chosen a name yet? Help them out with a game involving letters and names. The cake and decorations could be anything to do with the alphabet. Here are a few games involving baby names:
Baby Name Scramble.
Name the Baby.
Match baby names to their meanings.
Memories Shower Game
This theme lends itself to lots of creative ideas. Cakes can be ordered with a photo of the parents or baby pictures of the mother-to-be set into the topping. Have guests bring items for a scrapbook for the baby. Of course, take lots of photos so baby and mom can keep the memory of celebration with friends.
Some memory related games are:
Have guests bring a baby picture of themselves, try to match the pictures with the correct person.
Put 15 or so baby-related items or pictures of items on a tray and pass it around. Who can name the most from memory?
Whichever theme you choose for your upcoming shower, there are endless possibilities for invitations, decorations, and games to go with each one. After you've chosen your theme, everything else falls into place, and all that's left is to have fun and enjoy the party!
