Baby Nursery Theme Idea

Theming Your Baby's Nursery with Color and Style

Developing a theme for your new baby's nursery is an exciting task. For inspiration, leaf through picture books and parenting magazines, and browse through online baby malls. Some popular nursery themes include Noah's Ark, teddy bears, lambs, jungle critters, fairies, puppies, kittens, cowboys, celestial, farm animals, and themes based upon classic tales like Winnie-the-Pooh. The number of baby nursery theme ideas you will find is limited only by your imagination. The children's book, "Goodnight Moon", where a baby tells everything in the house goodnight, one by one, and then finally the moon, could inspire a sleepy time theme. With decorations modeled after the book illustrations of the sleep cat, the moon overhead, and others, a whimsical theme is created. Consider how the theme will work with color combinations that you love, but more importantly, what will most likely appeal to your baby. For example, a room exquisitely done completely in creamy white and buttercup yellow might win a decorating contest, but in a baby's eyes, this lovely room could be boring. While babies enjoy having things with contrasting patterns to look at, do not create a room that is too busy. Large, boisterous cartoon characters jumping out at baby from around the room and off the sheets can wreck havoc with your baby's rest. Coordinating a theme for the baby's nursery is fun, but it can take quite a bit of planning, effort and money. Consider decorating using a theme that you and your growing baby can enjoy for several years. A rainforest theme is a nursery idea that could easily result in a restful sanctuary and an exciting play space. When designing your baby's nursery you might choose to create a mural with pretty trees that extend onto the ceiling creating a pleasant green canopy over the crib. The trees may be filled with bright jungle critters peeking out from the leaves. The addition of a mobile featuring toucans could provide more contrasting patterns for your baby's intellectual stimulation. A search online for your rainforest theme could turn up items such as a plush monkey that doubles as a cozy chair and crib bedding with patterns of cheerful jungle critters. If you cannot imagine staying with one theme for long, choose one that can serve as the background for future themes. An example would be a patchwork theme. Many nursery-decorating items with the patchwork theme are available online. These include furniture, sheets and baby's blankets. Rocking horses go well with this theme. A rocking horse themed mobile, a plush rocking horse with a patchwork quilt, and other like items would all work well in a patchwork themed nursery. Later when baby is older and is fascinated with puppies, trucks, dinosaurs or something else, it is easy to change the rocking horses out and bring the new items into the patchwork setting. If someone is hosting a baby shower for you, have her mention your baby nursery theme in the shower invitations. Your friends and family will love visiting your home and finding the baby surrounded with themed shower gifts.
