Baby Room Nursery Rhyme Theme

Incorporating Rhyme and Verse Into Your Newborn's Nursery

The nursery rhymes you loved as a child can make a charming theme for your baby's nursery. There are dozens of popular rhymes to choose from, all of which will delight both you and your child. Some nursery rhymes lean more toward one gender, while others are more unisex. If you are having a girl and are enchanted with all things pink, try Little Bo Peep, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Little Miss Muffet. Boy-styled nursery rhyme themes include Little Jack Horner and Little Boy Blue. For even more variety, try a blend of different nursery rhymes. Little Bo Peep with her sheep will make charming baby bedding, while wall hangings of The Old Woman in the Shoe, Puss in Boots, Jack and Jill and other favorites will accent the room. Toddlers and preschoolers love to pretend. Buy nursery rhyme toys, such as Humpty Dumpty, and put them in the corner within easy reach of your little one. He or she will enjoy moving the toys as you recite the rhymes, and before you know it, he'll be saying them right along with you. A nursery rhyme theme nursery can be truly whimsical. Cut out, sew or buy images of the Cow Jumping Over the Moon and apply them to your baby's ceiling so he can gaze at them while he falls asleep. Take advantage of wall space, too. Have the Three Men in a Tub float by the Owl and the Pussycat. Paste Mary chasing her little lamb where the corners of two walls meet. Babies benefit from seeing words. Your baby won't understand the words yet, but he or she will begin to recognize the various letters over time. Hang embroidered wall hangings and pictures with nursery rhyme favorites on them to assist in your baby's letter recognition skills. Also include nursery rhyme books, such as Mother Goose collections, on your baby's toy shelf. Baby nursery furniture and accessories are available in several nursery rhyme themes. When decorating your baby's room using a nursery rhyme theme, consider using the following items.
  • Lamp
  • Nightlight
  • Crib
  • Changing table
  • Wall hangings and pictures
  • Stuffed toys
  • Chair and Table
  • Shelving
  • Crib
  • Area rug
  • Bedding
  • Books If you are making out a registry for your baby shower, be specific about the items you wish to receive. If you have a specific color scheme, try to request only those items that will work with your entire nursery theme. Enjoy decorating your baby's room. Nursery rhymes are sure to make it a place that you both will enjoy.
